Rivastigmine (Exelon) is used to treat dementia (a brain disorder that affects the ability to remember, think clearly, communicate, and perform daily activities, and can cause mood and personality changes) in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s (a brain disease that slowly destroys memory and the ability to think, learn, communicate, and perform daily activities). Rivastigmine is also used to treat dementia in people with Parkinson’s disease (a disease of the brain and nervous system with symptoms of slow movement, muscle weakness, shuffling, and memory loss). Rivastigmine is in a class of medications called cholinesterase inhibitors.
