METRONIDAZOL
Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach, liver, skin, joints, brain and spinal cord, lungs, heart, or bloodstream.
Metronidazole is also used to treat trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease caused by a parasite. Usually both sexual partners are treated at the same time, even if one has no symptoms.
Do not use metronidazole to treat any condition that has not been checked by your doctor.
Warnings
You should not use metronidazole if you recently drank alcohol, or have taken disulfiram (Antabuse) within the past 2 weeks.
Do not drink alcohol or consume foods or medicines that contain propylene glycol while you are taking metronidazole and for at least 3 days after you stop taking it.
Seizures and other nervous system abnormalities have been reported in patients treated with metronidazole. You should stop using this medicine immediately if you experience any neurological symptoms such as seizures, headaches, visual changes, weakness, numbness, or tingling.
This medicine will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.
In animal studies (mice and rats), this medicine caused certain types of cancers or tumors. It is not known whether these effects would occur in people using this medicine. Ask your doctor about your risk.
METRONIDAZOL
El metronidazol es un antibiótico que se usa para tratar infecciones bacterianas de la vagina, el estómago, el hígado, la piel, las articulaciones, el cerebro y la médula espinal, los pulmones, el corazón o el torrente sanguíneo.
El metronidazol también se usa para tratar la tricomoniasis, una enfermedad de transmisión sexual causada por un parásito. Por lo general, ambos compañeros sexuales reciben tratamiento al mismo tiempo, incluso si uno no tiene síntomas.
No use metronidazol para tratar ninguna condición que no haya sido revisada por su médico.
Advertencias
No debe usar metronidazol si recientemente bebió alcohol o si tomó disulfiram (Antabuse) en las últimas 2 semanas.
No beba alcohol ni consuma alimentos o medicamentos que contengan propilenglicol mientras esté tomando metronidazol y durante al menos 3 días después de dejar de tomarlo.
Se han informado convulsiones y otras anomalías del sistema nervioso en pacientes tratados con metronidazol. Debe dejar de usar este medicamento inmediatamente si experimenta algún síntoma neurológico como convulsiones, dolores de cabeza, cambios visuales, debilidad, entumecimiento u hormigueo.
Este medicamento no tratará una infección viral como el resfriado común o la gripe.
En estudios con animales (ratones y ratas), este medicamento causó ciertos tipos de cánceres o tumores. No se sabe si estos efectos ocurrirían en personas que usan este medicamento. Pregúntele a su médico acerca de su riesgo.
